I was asked to explain about the bonus army today. I haven't read up on the events recently, so I'm afraid I gave some incorrect information. I also left out important facts. For example, it is not true that no one was killed in the battle of Anacostia flats. I also failed to mention that the U.S. Army forces (active) were led by Gens. MacArthur and Patton. I also didn't remember that the reason the bonus hadn't been paid was because it wasn't supposed to be paid for several more years. These are all things that I should have remembered, but did not.
